About Plays in Mud Pottery

My Gallery and Studio are located in Asheville, NC and I love making pottery! One of the questions I get asked the most is how did you get interested in Pottery. My answer: There was no beginning per say... Growing up using handmade objects was just a way of life. But if you want to know about when I knew I wanted to be a potter. It was helping my Dad (master chair maker and blacksmith Lyle Wheeler) at a craft show in Banner Elk NC. North Carolina heritage potters Glen and Lula Bolick were there demonstrating throwing on a kick wheel outside. I was captivated! I watched for hours that first day and eventually Lula asked if I would like to touch the pot she was working on. I was so excited! I sat up on the stool and reached out and as my finger slid across the piece, my soul became electrified. I knew I wanted to make pottery. Ever since then I have worked to craft that life. I believes that in this busy tech filled life using pottery grounds us in/to the moment allowing us time to be connected to the moment we are currently experiencing. I use small handmade stamps that I design. These are unique to me and no other potter will have these designs. Each piece is carefully crafted with small details added to enhance the experience of using my pottery. I decorates the bottom of the piece and even add decoration to the handles of mugs. All of these small details come together to create a beautiful experience of using, holding and enjoying each and every item I make.
