Angelle Albright was just 38 years old with 3 small children when she was given a 34% chance of surviving breast cancer. The diagnosis itself was a heartbreaker, but the idea of losing her figure and hair was absolutely heart-wrenching. Her locks of long curly hair were her signature, but faking her exotic hair with a wig in 2005 was not possible. The struggle to find good-looking, good-fitting head covers just didn't exist. Scarves were costly, had to be tied, and refused to stay in place. Her search caused her more anxiety than she could handle. She lost her dignity and mostly went bald or lived in a comfy bandana that left many parts of her head exposed. Five years later, she survived thanks to new targeted therapies, and when her sister was diagnosed, she refused to let her suffer the same frustration. She came up with the perfect solution to ease the added burden of baldness for others. A simple, yet stylish alternative to old-fashioned scarf-tying and your grandmother's turban. The built-in neck scarf was designed to invoke the feeling of having hair, without a large knot on the back of their head for long afternoons in the chemo chair. Vye Eyewear is the brainchild that stems from a female-led sunglasses business. After being in and studying the fashion eyewear industry, where we serve global clothing chains for over 10 years, we realized that something was missing. We wanted beautiful, high-fashion sunglasses made from the best materials but at a reasonable price. Nothing on the current market seemed to fit that description, so we decided it was time to change that. Materials like polarized lenses were only on sporty frames and that look is not for everyone. Acetate and stainless steel were only sold for hundreds of dollars and our audience is not willing to spend that much on a pair of sunglasses. We desire to serve the masses and that is what continues to drive us. We believe that designer quality and aesthetics should be attainable for all. ZOOMe was created by Ava Cantrell and her parents Bryan and Janina. Ava Cantrell is a young Hollywood actress who started in the business when she was seven years old and she has worked for every major studio including Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Universal. When old COVID-19 came around she was stuck attending college online, auditioning for parts over zoom, and spending hours and hours staring at computer screens. Her entertainment included binging shows and gaming. Ava's eyes were becoming sore and sleep was increasingly evading her, so she asked her dad about computer glasses. Bryan Cantrell is the owner of a wholesale sunglass company in San Diego as well as a partner in the beauty brand Fleur De Spa. He is also an entrepreneur that appeared on Shark Tank. He and his business partner in Radiate Campfire struck a deal with Robert Herjavac for their portable campfire in 2018. Bryan sourced out a couple of pairs of blue light blocking glasses for Ava to wear while on her laptop. Ava's eye strain went away, and she was able to sleep better now that her eyes were not bombarded with the harmful blue light. A business idea was formed! As designers, it’s important to Eva and Hetal that flip & tumble’s products solve real world problems and bring joy to their users everyday lives.
