I have been drawing on and off all my life but after studying at Bradford and Reading art colleges and working as a freelance illustrator I got side-tracked and had various jobs before spending six happy years running my own plant nursery. Inspired by the plants I was growing I began drawing again and have poured my passion into Umbellifer’s botanical greetings cards and limited edition prints. All my work starts as a drawing, often from life in my plant-packed garden. Once I have completed a design I scan the drawing into my computer and work on colour and texture. The finished work is printed by a small family firm in North Yorkshire. This means that every purchase you make from Umbellifer helps support several small businesses – from the stationery shop where I buy my art materials to the printers to my local post office! Umbellifer cards are printed on FSC-certified board which has been carbon offset using the Woodland Trusts Woodland Carbon scheme and I use recycled envelopes and biodegradable cello wrap where possible – cards can be supplied loose if you wish to be really eco-friendly! All cards are blank inside but come with an appropriate quote or piece of poetry on the reverse which I really enjoy researching. My limited edition giclee prints are printed on high-quality paper and are supplied rolled and ready for framing. Framed prints are available at craft fairs across the north of England.
