About Sulu Bags

We are Maribel and Ángeles, from Barcelona. Childhood friends and lovers of sewing and design, a hobby we shared back in high school. Both of us dedicated a large part of our professional lives to graphic design, but fate brought us back together with this project: we joined forces to design and create bags. This is how Sulu Bags was born, creating urban collections with very personal lines, outside of fashion. Bags that can be transformed into backpacks, adjustable in size, reversible in color, fanny packs, and mini-bags... Practical, lightweight, transformable, bold, handcrafted, locally made, and vegan.

OMOM

It was during the year of 2014 that the journey towards OMOM started. I was getting sick of the habit of carrying the small plastic bags from the store that I in the best case reused sometimes and in the worst case threw away instantly. I wanted to make something that replaced the disposable bag, for myself. The solution was a few small bags in see-thru tulle that I made. The feeling I felt the first time I used them was great satisfaction! “I will bring my own bag to the store that I can wash and then use again”! So Simple! And the response was great. Soon I was making fruit bags for friends and family and I started to understand that this habit was a habit that many people wanted to do for themselves. After a few months I started my brand OMOM. In Swedish OM means again, so the direct translation of the brand is againagain. The fruit bags have been sold every day since then. Eventually, I started to look after a sustainable producer since I had a hard time sewing enough bags. After nearly a year I found my partner in India - a small family-run business that has the same focus on organic fabric as I do. The whole making of their material and working standards are certified by GOTS. They are making real quality products and I couldn't be more satisfied with our partnership over the last 10 years. Slowly but steadily OMOM's products have broadened. I always look at my own needs when designing a new product. I love the idea that Organic and Sustainable can be colorful :)

Ohrna

Embrace an organic lifestyle through Ohrna! Ohrna was born of a dream to use eco-friendly materials to conserve the beauty of handmade traditions while creating work to benefit homebound women who have not had an opportunity at employment. Ohrna believes in working with compassion, for the earth and its people - have done and always will! Our products combine jute with beautiful cotton fabrics and are lined not with plastic as is common practice, but with the same fabric. Ohrna patronizes jute because it is a vegetable fiber, naturally decomposable and durable. The Ikat and Tie dye Bandhni cottons we use are regional fabrics made by artisans at home. Our products are handmade in the homes of our makers and hand embroidered in Kantha stitch. We train for free, housemaids, housewives and farmers, often from rural settings. We provide them all the materials and pay them to work from home while balancing their home-fronts, as they learn and grow. This process, that steps them from a learner, to a maker and then on to become an artisan is a long and arduous one, but one that is life changing for her. We take great joy in introducing embroidered jute to western markets! We are also a zero-waste company and use leftovers of our process to make products like dolls, luggage tags and bookmarks. And our products are all packaged in beautiful up-cycled saris! An article on Ohrna that you may like to read: www.starterstory.com/start-sustainable-handmade-lifestyle-products
