Made is a collection of one-of-a-kind bags & home decor pieces, handmade near Baltimore, MD by Sarah Black. Inspired by artisans around the world, her collection uses a mix materials from as far as Ghana to as close as her local secondhand shop. With a goal of zero-waste, fabric scraps are repurposed into kitchen hot pads. 5% of sales are donated to a marginalized communities. Prior to Covid-19 restrictions, she organized humanitarian trips for makers to teach their trade to women in developing countries; such as Uganda, India, and Peru.

Making our own make-up, cleaning products and composting is something we’ve been doing for many years now, but it was in May 2016 that it all came together for us and we launched Dans le Sac to inspire change on a larger scale. So our mission has shifted to inspire people positively. We knew that we could make a difference by offering simple and convenient alternatives that respect both our health and the planets. Since then, we’ve developed sustainable products that fit into your daily routines, items that you’ll want to use over and over again, and that helps us reduce our ecological footprint. All of our products are proudly made in Quebec, from our bags to our labels. We thus participate in creating employment and preserving our know-how while reducing our ecological footprint. On average, at least four different businesses are involved in each of our products Dans le Sac is now a blog, a YouTube channel and an online shop, but it is also a lovely extended family where people are there and ready to inspire people on their own as well. I used to design apparel and accessories for other brands but felt that I was contributing to the overwhelming amount of waste, consumerism and unethical practices in the fashion industry, and that I wasn't making an impact. While traveling in Southeast Asia in 2009, I was inspired to create TORRAIN; a brand that unites all that I care about: environmental protection, community empowerment, adventure and design. TORRAIN bags are unique + sustainable, designed in Portland OR and ethically handcrafted by artisan groups in Cambodia. They are made from up cycled, colorful cement, rice and feed bags and our signature liner is recycled from plastic bottles, lending them to be lightweight, extremely durable and waterproof - perfect for adventure! 1:1 initiative: For every bag sold, $1 is donated to rotating organizations that support sustainable practices and healthy communities. TORRAIN also employs and empowers artisans in Cambodia. The name TORRAIN is a combination of the word, terrain and the phrase, 'to rain'. When it rains the earth is fruitful.
