It all started with a wanderer. Traveling to over 60 countries, our founder Alex soon recognized the benefits of packing less. Ditching her heavy suitcase not only saved her time, money, and energy, but allowed her to get off-the-beaten path to explore and appreciate more. She swore by this new way of travel and became devoted to helping other adventurers find similar benefits in packing light. In 2018, she founded Wanderlight to help travelers pack less and experience more so that their journeys can be transformative in their lives and in the destinations they visit. Wanderlight accomplishes this by building a community of like-minded explorers, inspiring them to travel with less, and empowering them with the durable, versatile, and compact travel goods to do so. As our business has grown over the years, so has our understanding of our impact & responsibility. Wanderlight’s focus has shifted from not just helping people travel light, but to helping them travel in a way that is better for both them and the planet. This has led us to discontinuing the use of virgin plastics in our fabric and packaging. All of our towels are now made with 100% post-consumer recycled plastics and packaged in recyclable boxes instead of polybags (you'll see these towels marked as "Eco" in our catalogue). We're also supporting sustainable travel initiatives by donating 5% of our profits to this cause and by getting involved in grassroots efforts in our community.

In the 1960's, our family created a business in Istanbul selling products in Istanbul's one and only world famous Grand Bazaar. For over 50 years, we have introduced travelers of the bazaar to the deep artistic and cultural heritage of Anatolia through items such as jewelry, ceramic pottery, lamps, and fabrics that reflect the region's rich and diverse history. Ever since its founding, our shop has partnered directly with the Anatolian artists and manufacturers of the products in what is now central Turkey. This was a unique strategy at the time and remains our primary differentiation more than 50 years later. Without any middlemen in our supply chain, we have been able to offer honest and decent living wages to the artists while maintaining the best prices in the Istanbul market. The possibility of sharing them with you, showing the piece of the antique Aegean culture is the main reason we started Kalkedon Towels. Our towels come from a little town in Western part of Turkey. We are so happy to work with people from a small community. We believe, people around us, are the most important and we should care about each other. Our peshtemals/ Turkish towels are lightweight and portable which makes them quite proper in a beach, travel but also thicker than many others which makes them perfect fit as a shawl or throw blanket for chilly nights. Our plush/oversized bath towels are weaved withTurkish cotton ring spun yarns on traditional jacquard looms. Therefore, it is long-lasting and not easily deformed. The towels are dyed with organic and traditional dyeing techniques.
