Transitions with my little would always lead to a power struggle or a melt down especially when he didn’t know what was coming up next. Leaving me feeling like a dictator, but the reality was he became irate when his schedule got off with play, sleep,and eating times. I tried telling him the time limit warnings,even setting timers but we would still some how get off schedule or run into issues with eating properly & or not having successful naptimes. All because he wanted to color or do something longer than time allowed. This lead to night wakings because he was overtired, overstimulated or worse starving. Once I introduced key steps for certain activities like putting on an apron, or blowing a whistle or clapping our hands after certain tasks this allow him the time he needed to transition mentally so he would welcome the new activity vs fight the change. Hi I’m Tara mama to a toddler whom is a stickler for protocol and thrives in structure (like all kids).
