Big Blue Moma

My husband went to Ghana in 2013 on a volunteer mission through his work. He was to be there for six months and since it had never been on my radar for travel I thought "I should go!" Little did I know the spontaneous adventure would result in a thriving business. Big Blue Moma now employs over 360 weavers in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana. We work closely with the team to establish the best outcomes for both our clients in the developed world, and our weavers. We call what we do "Conscious business" because in every decision we make, our team is considered fully. We are not a charity, we are a for profit business and the Ghanian team are our partners in this venture. We learned in our short time in Ghana that charity is not our preferred method of helping. Business is more sustainable, and it is more valuable than any one time gift or donation. So me personally, Karie Wylie (also known as "Big Blue Moma") well I come from a small town in Northern Alberta and went to Art School in my twenties. I graduated with a degree in weaving so what I do right now is what I feel I was always meant to do. I have always been self employed, I have always loved weaving, Big Blue Moma has been such a gift to us.

The African Home Goods

We seek to empower artisans around the world by extending their products’ distribution, and supporting sustainable income opportunities. We are committed to honor the dignity of artisans, celebrate their cultural techniques, and traditions.

Twig and Tassel

Twig and Tassel was founded in 2016, when CEO and Founder, Julien Kearns was on a mission to find stylish baskets for her daughters nursery. She wanted to find something that would lsat way beyond her daughters toddler years. Using her background in fashion, she created her own basket with some simple cotton rope, a sewing machine and non-toxic dye. Fast-forward five years, and Julien is now the mother to four daughters. Her mission is to create beautiful, eco-friendly storage baskets, decor and accessories for you and your little ones. We want our products to transition with you as your lifestyle changes. *AS FEATURED IN: The TODAY show (NBC), Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine, Potterybarn Catalogue, and The Jilly Box Subscription Box (Jillian Harris - Celebrity), plus many more. We believe in local and handmade. As a big believer in female empowerment, Twig and Tassel prides itself in sourcing local female Artisans to assist in the production and making of our goods. We believe in contributing to our local economy and striving to keep our products made locally in as many areas as possible. Our baskets and rugs are made of natural cotton, from non-toxic chemical free, responsibly-sourced cotton plants. Each tassel and pom is dyed by hand using non-toxic dyes to ensure our products are not harmful to you or our environment.
