Hi my name is Sara and I founded Sutton Michelle Designs in 2020. I began my small business journey by making my new born daughter (Sutton) headbands. Once I posted them for sale all the moms wanted them as well. I quickly transitioned into making hair accessories for women, and developed the Silky Hair Tie for heatless curls shortly thereafter. The Silky Hair Tie was the first of its kinda made from a silk like fabric and without any stuffing. The explosion of this product made my business grow exponentially. On my no heat hair journey I discovered the importance of caring for your hair and began developing a natural, hair care line. Which brings us to today! All of our products are manufactured by hand in Victoria BC by myself and my employees. We take great care in creating high quality naturally based products. We source all of our ingredients from Canadian retailers and believe in the importance of supporting our community. We do not use secondary packaging and sell refills on a variety of our products. Hotline Hair Ties was created in 2017 when Megan (who owned a small boutique at the time) was looking for a solution for the perfect hair tie. She had been diagnosed with a rare brain disorder that caused debilitating migraines daily, and she hadn't been able to wear her hair in a simple ponytail for over a year because of the pain it caused. She knew a better solution had to be out there, and that's when she found out about coil hair ties. At that time, there were only the small, thin, black ones that would easily get caught in your hair and stretch out instantly. She knew she could make them better. Hotline Hair Ties was born! She used her background in the boutique world to find a manufacturer to create the hair ties to her exact specifications, and she launched the brand not expecting much but just happy she had a way to wear her hair up now without being in pain. Hotline exploded almost instantly and other boutiques were asking to carry the brand! Fast Forward to a few years later, and Hotline is now carried in over 1500 stores across North and South America. Her experience owning a boutique caused her to make sure the brand was perfectly geared for retailers. With a profit margin of 4x on average, she wanted to make sure it was a brand that her retailers could make money off of. She also implemented the Replacement Program that the Hotline team personally takes care of, so that shop owners don't have to deal with any issues themselves. Hotline takes care of it all!

We offer solutions to problems in the personal care industry such as excessive plastic waste, elaborate and unnecessary skin and haircare routines, fearful marketing tactics, and greenwashing. The idea to start Green Room was born on a Baja surf trip living in our camper van. Showering in the ocean and living without proper waste management infrastructure (AKA hanging a plastic bag on the armrest of the driver seat and emptying it at the next gas station) meant we were hyper-aware of what we were putting into the environment and living very closely with our garbage. The phrase “There is no ‘away’” was very real for us. And so, the need sustainably packaged and travel-friendly body care was recognized. The underlying motto behind Green Room is “less is more”. The best thing about being your own target market is knowing exactly what you want from your favourite brand. For others who would also rather keep their routines simple, travel light, and achieve salon-quality results for from only a handful of products, Green Room delivers just that.
