I’m from California but I’m not from Malibu, not from LA, nor from Hollywood or any famous city. I grew up in a place where fields of strawberries shared the land with salt and sea. Where there was always afternoon wind in your hair, and the 90’s Mercedes were few and far between. Where tractors slowed school buses and bumper to bumper traffic was caused by dense June gloom. LA life was a daydream, a stones throw south, a glimpse from the freeway on a daytrip to Disneyland. Young living took me to the places Covergirls were made, where pasta was born, where sunsets were famed, where I learned what a balance of grit and grace could get you. Mistakes, losses, triumphs and successes made me, but nothing tugged at my heart, like here, where I said I do, where my son was born, where I’ve built my life, like here, like home. Not from Malibu is inspired by the memories that make us and the places that shape us. Just to be clear, we have nothing against Malibu. It’s a lovely place.
