Penelope Handmade

Hi! My name is actually not Penelope. It's Jennifer. :) My great-grandmother, Penelope Eleanor (we call her Mama Nell), was a seamstress and would sew for my mother "a dress before she woke up in the morning." She passed that love of creating and making on to my grandmother, Elma Ruth, and my mother. It is a legacy I hope will live on in my daughter, Eleanor Ruth. My hope is that this space and the products I make will inspire you to create your very own heirlooms, building your own legacy of beauty and comfort. "The humblest of tasks get beautified if loving hands do them." Louisa May Alcott

Laundry Basket Quilts

Edyta’s love for fabric began at a very young age - when she used her mother’s drapes to create her first fabric project! Fortunately, for all of us, Edyta's mother recognized her passion for fabric and thus began her journey with fabric and sewing. One of Edyta’s biggest blessings is her marriage to husband, Michael. She not only fell in love- she was introduced to a Sitar family tradition of quilting by her mother-in-law, Carol, and grandmother-in-law, Anna. Quilting has enabled Edyta to express herself about the objects or occasions of her surroundings - her designs are her avenue to release passion! “My children and my husband are my greatest motivation. This is the Cinderella dream for me. Being able to do what I love and share this love with others is the greatest feeling and reward I could imagine!" The combination of inspiration, a love for fabric, a keen eye for color, and her family teachings blended into the recipe for a talent in constructing amazing quilts, creating innovative quilting patterns for Laundry Basket Quilts, designing beautiful Traditional and Batik fabrics for Moda (10 years) and now for Andover (Present). She has published numerous books to date, been featured in many magazines, and her quilts have been honored in displays around the world. Edyta is proud to carry on her family tradition that fabrics and threads have seamlessly stitched together through the generations.

3 Dog Design Company

Carl started quilting in the late 1990s. He did not come from a quilting family, but there was always some sort of handwork going on around him. His mother was a seamstress, his aunt knitted, and his sister Nancy loved to draw. Carl learned sewing, knitting, and pattern making at an early age, probably around ten or so. The Internet was still young when Carl started quilting. He learned by watching TV shows such as Simply Quilts, Quilt in a Day, and Love of Quilting. It was only after seeing guest Ricky Tims on one of those programs that Carl decided it was time to buy a sewing machine and some fabric and learn how to quilt. In 2000, Carl moved to Denver, where he discovered his first quilt shop, block-of-the-month projects, and tons of fabric. He dabbled over the years, still watching his favorite TV shows to learn more. It was when he moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, in 2006 that Carl started to delve deeper into his passion for quilting. “I found a lot of quilt shops in Kansas City and participated in a few sampler quilts and blocks-of-the-month.” By doing these projects, one block at a time, Carl honed his skills.
