Angela Harris, our founder, is a fifth generation Herbalist from the Southwestern United States. In the mid 1990s she was diagnosed with lymphoma while pregnant with her sixth child. This experience led her to a deeper study of this enduring family tradition as she sought ways to deliver a healthy baby. She was unable to find reliable educational materials and experienced difficulty locating sources of many of the herbs she wanted to use. After delivering a healthy daughter, she and her husband Curtiss realized it was their calling to create the space they needed so that other herbalists could access the education and resources for them and their families as well. In 2004, Angela and Curt opened the original Herbally Grounded store on Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas. Since then, they have witnessed the power of herbs and natural living with everything from serious illness to sniffly noses and sought ways to share what they were learning with their community through Herbally Grounded. In 2017 they left Herbally Grounded to found HerbU, an educational platform to teach others how to incorporate this lost wisdom. After over a decade of helping manage the operations, Curt and Angela’s daughter Emma and her husband Jon took over Herbally Grounded and are expanding on the family’s legacy. Spring 2016 Dani was working for Stella McCartney, getting her Master’s in Business Administration and living in London, England. Lexi was about to have her third boy (now with four!), and in school to be a herbalist and we decided this was the perfect time to begin a business, as you do - (hey, if not now, when?). Five insanely challenging + truly amazing years later it has grown into something we couldn’t possibly have imaged ourselves. With family and wellness at the very heart of it all still and nowhere near finished. We take what we do and your health very seriously - but we are anything but serious. Noni Martin, RN. Noni has worked as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years and her focus has always been toward families, childbirth, and babies. A great believer in preventative care, Noni started working with adults, progressed to pediatrics and families, then high-risk infants, newborn nursery, and, finally, childbirth and pregnancy classes of every sort, always attempting to prevent a problem before it occurred. Jim Pathman, PhD. Dr. Jim Pathman Jim has a unique and caring background which adds to his abilities in managing the Three Lollies. Long before the conception of Preggie Pops, Jim identified his love of helping others feel better. As a very young adult he helped treat autistic and emotionally challenged children. His dedication and devotion to the care of others carried him through both Masters and Doctoral degrees in the field of Psychology. The story of The Brainfood Mushroom Company began in the rainforests of Costa Rica and wound its way through a discovery of self, the earth, and ultimately to the plant medicines our forefathers relied upon for their health and wisdom. Passions were born, curiosity was ignited and adventures begun. After 30 years of working in the film industry it was time for us to help improve the human condition and not just the way they are entertained. Thus, Brainfood Mushrooms, a brand, a product, and a lifestyle was born.

Consumers are on the lookout for a quick way to incorporate more gut-friendly foods into their diet. Water kefir is one of the fastest ferments that they can easily make at home. Sometimes known as tibicos, water kefir is made from bacterial cultures that resemble plump, translucent grains. Water kefir is a great substitute for sugary soda that is laden with additives and artificial sweeteners. It is also a great alternative to kombucha, which can have an intense vinegar flavour, is caffeinated and takes 15 days to make. Not to be confused with milk kefir, the grains that ferment water kefir are distinctly different from their milk counterparts and will not work in dairy. They look different as well. Water kefir is completely dairy free, caffeine free, gluten free and vegan. It can be used to ferment nut milks, coconut water and coconut cream for yogurt. Water kefir is simple to make at home and is typically ready in 48 hours.
