With other children frolicking in the beach waves, little Yulee could always be found beach-combing for the most interesting stones and shells (treasures) along the shore. As I grew older, my collector’s gaze turned towards the quirkiest antique shops, finding age-old books with crumbing pages and brass trinkets that I felt must hold so many stories. I began making jewelry out of these found pieces and shared my work in art galleries and boutiques in Vancouver. Over time the collection transformed in style to the minimalist classic line it is today, filled with gemstones, silver, and gold. My goal is to create a collection that holds meaning, and jewelry has a special way of doing that. It has an ability to be cherished more than its delicate size can show. It’s worn close to our skin, and is often given by ones we love, or worn for those we want to remember. It’s a way of giving to ourselves, tiny moments of self-care during those quiet early mornings as get ready for the day.

Myrtle & Me began in 2015 with Jocelyn, the ‘Me’ of the business, and ‘Myrtle’ being a nod to the species that is particularly prevalent in the takayna / Tarkine, Australia’s largest tract of cool temperate rainforest. Sourced from the atolls of French Polynesia and crafted in the islands of Hawai'i, each piece of Keshi Co jewelry is a celebration of the beauty of Pacific islands. Made for mermaids at heart, our ocean creations are inspired by the joy found in wild places and the sense of adventure that led us on the journey to Keshi Co. Based on the North Shore of Oahu, we handcraft our jewelry using high quality materials including 14k gold fill, sterling silver, silk, sandalwood, and leather. Owner and designer Molly started Keshi Co during a five year period spent sailing through the islands of French Polynesia. During this time, she developed an intricate understanding of the black pearl farming industry. To this day, Molly continues to purchase each and every Tahitian pearl used at Keshi Co personally in French Polynesia where they’re grown on family run farms that provide economic support to remote island communities.

I started making jewellery in 2015 because I became frustrated with how expensive non precious jewellery was or how quickly it tarnish. I also was looking for creative options that fit my whimsical style but I just couldn't find it. What started as a hobby quickly became a full time business between online sales, wholesale stores and markets! The pieces that I make are made with long lasting metals and are comfortable to wear for most people. My goal is to offer pieces that fit the wide variety of personalities out there! I chose the hot air balloon as my logo because I think it's the perfect representation of all things whimsical. For me, I think life should always be playful, quaint and fanciful. In 2001, Sonja Swenson designed and fashioned her first handmade necklace. This moment signaled the beginning of her passion for jewelry-making and skill sharing. From that moment, she learned that creating designs and seeing them come to life was a true passion that could be shared. Soon after, she opened a bead store where she began teaching classes. She didn’t want to just make pieces to sell - Sonja wanted to boldly empower others to create and share their art. She wanted to give those around her a means to fashion beautiful pieces, generate income, and develop strength through purposeful relationships. Nearly ten years later, Sonja was in the process of restructuring her current bead and clothing store when she found herself with excess product. But rather than throw away the perfectly good beads, she sought out a way to repurpose. This deliberate search led her to Haiti. Sonja and her daughter Shelbi ventured to the Caribbean country just two short years after it was devastated by an earthquake that ravaged the country and left millions jobless.

Vintage Acorn’s beginnings were humble and small; two sisters stumbled into the wild world of jewelry making when they set out to create button earrings from a few beloved vintage fabrics. Multiple trips to textile stores and estate auctions later they had more pairs than they could ever possibly wear. Thus, Vintage Acorn was born. By filling a need, they found their niche. With ingenuity in their heads and pliers in their hands, they expanded to include necklaces and hand-painted pieces, drawing inspiration from street blogs, antique stores, and the markets from their travels. Fast-forward 9 years and Marijka now runs Vintage Acorn full time from her home studio in Kitchener, Ontario with an occasional helping hand from big sister Erika.
