Utz Threads is a Latina owned textile brand that weaves Maya Quiché culture into everyday use products like laptop cases, purses, travel bags and t-shirts. We serve as your connection to the ancestral weaving practices of this living culture and create space for women to tell their own empowering stories.

We work with Wayuu artisan families, both is Colombia and Venezuela, to bring to the USA gorgeous handmade items that celebrate tradition. We also have designed pieces that combine Wayuu art and utilitarian needs. The Wayuu society is a matriarchal one, so our main partners are women who decide what will be created and how their earnings will be spent. We also work with The Wayuu Taya Foundation, a non-profit organization that was founded 20 years ago, so every purchase helps feed Wayuu children through them. LUZ Collection was born from wanderlust and curiosity. LUZ was founded in 2013 by Chantale De Breceda, who began importing textiles from Mexico for her store YES in Los Angeles. After YES closed at the end of 2017 De Breceda turned importing into a full time job. She works directly with artists in various regions of Mexico to bring her own designs to life and to source traditional designs. The LUZ catalogue reflects a commitment to work with artisans using natural materials and traditional techniques. De Breceda is a member of the Métis Nation of British Columbia and a descendant of the Cowessess First Nation of Saskatchewan. In the case of Brooklyn couple Rachel and Michael, they create Maptote, a line of products decorated with maps of locales both domestic and exotic. Inspired by a trip abroad, Maptote started in 2006 after the couple designed their first tote bag with a map of Brooklyn on it. Since then the line has grown to include accessories, pouches, apparel, baby onesies and gifts. Still located in Brooklyn, NY all of the products are made in the USA with a majority of them local to us in Brooklyn.
