Since 2003, Indigo Handloom has been supporting the weaving communities of rural India. Our goal is to create work with dignity for our weavers and all support industries. Most of the people we work with have a 4th grade education or less, the majority of them are women who work from their own homes - allowing them to care for their families as well as earn a living. With the help of our customers, we have a social project in the villages where we work that provides educational services and an improved water supply.

We work within a community in North India. Due to the community’s caste status, the people living here are unable to participate in traditional jobs. To survive, families marry off their daughters at puberty. Once married, women and girls are forced into sex work to sustain themselves and their families. Sewing New Futures works with women to provide paid training and mentorship as they learn about sewing, appliqué, textiles. With these skills, women gain a sustainable income while applying their creative talent and vision to artisanal work. Sewing New Futures is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and every purchase you make has a purpose. The money earned goes toward career training, education, medical care, and social services. Most importantly, sales of these goods benefit the women who are brave enough to disregard their cultural norms and refuse a life of prostitution. You may not think of yourself as an activist, but your support will change lives.

We are a small family knitting studio. We design + make a collection of modern jacquard knitted wraps. They are made of buttery soft Italian spun 100% Organic Egyptian cotton. They feel like cashmere. Each piece is designed, programmed +knit in our studio based int he Catskill mountains. They are easy to take care of because they are made of long staple cotton, meaning they won’t pill and are machine wash + dry.
