I’ve always loved collecting treasures. With other children frolicking in the beach waves, little Yulee could always be found beach-combing for the most interesting stones and shells (treasures) along the shore. As I grew older, my collector’s gaze turned towards the quirkiest antique shops, finding age-old books with crumbing pages and brass trinkets that I felt must hold so many stories. I began making jewelry out of these found pieces and shared my work in art galleries and boutiques in Vancouver. Over time the collection transformed in style to the minimalist classic line it is today, filled with gemstones, silver, and gold. My goal is to create a collection that holds meaning, and jewelry has a special way of doing that. It has an ability to be cherished more than its delicate size can show. It’s worn close to our skin, and is often given by ones we love, or worn for those we want to remember. It’s a way of giving to ourselves, tiny moments of self-care during those quiet early mornings as get ready for the day.

My jewelry represents a journey—all the people and places that have brought color, joy, and authenticity to my experiences. Through my designs, I translate moments of splendor into wearable inspiration. As an adult, I’ve been inspired by the drive and creativity of my sister, actress Ali Wentworth; brother-in-law and Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos; and my late father-in-law, legendary newsman Mike Wallace. My designs reflect a curiosity and sensibility instilled by my upbringing and my travels. As a child, I was drawn to the brilliance of shells and gemstones I discovered along the beaches and boundaries of Cape Cod.

When I design, I get inspiration from almost everything, including fashion, travel, and I love drawing inspirations from different cultures. We then create CADs and We start the mold making process. When making molds, We usually end up making a few to make sure we get the piece of jewelry perfect. After the mold is created, the silver is poured into the mold and the jewelry is actually tangible. We then move on to add the CZ stones and assemble all the parts of the jewelry together.

I started making jewellery in 2015 because I became frustrated with how expensive non precious jewellery was or how quickly it tarnish. I also was looking for creative options that fit my whimsical style but I just couldn't find it. What started as a hobby quickly became a full time business between online sales, wholesale stores and markets! The pieces that I make are made with long lasting metals and are comfortable to wear for most people. My goal is to offer pieces that fit the wide variety of personalities out there! I chose the hot air balloon as my logo because I think it's the perfect representation of all things whimsical. For me, I think life should always be playful, quaint and fanciful. In 2001, Sonja Swenson designed and fashioned her first handmade necklace. This moment signaled the beginning of her passion for jewelry-making and skill sharing. From that moment, she learned that creating designs and seeing them come to life was a true passion that could be shared. Soon after, she opened a bead store where she began teaching classes. She didn’t want to just make pieces to sell - Sonja wanted to boldly empower others to create and share their art. She wanted to give those around her a means to fashion beautiful pieces, generate income, and develop strength through purposeful relationships. Nearly ten years later, Sonja was in the process of restructuring her current bead and clothing store when she found herself with excess product. But rather than throw away the perfectly good beads, she sought out a way to repurpose. This deliberate search led her to Haiti. Sonja and her daughter Shelbi ventured to the Caribbean country just two short years after it was devastated by an earthquake that ravaged the country and left millions jobless.

In the early 1980s, my mother delved into the wholesale jewelry business, immersing my sister Grace and me in a world filled with beads, chains, rhinestones, and crystals. Gracie Rose emerged from our determination to confidently stamp our name on the handmade jewelry crafted by our family in Vancouver, Canada—long before the world recognized the value of "handmade." We're pleased to witness the shift in times! Gracie Rose bears the namesake of my sister and me, Rosy, and the helm of the company is steered by both my mother and me.
