However, like all-natural selections, they’re influenced by human experiences. “The Grateful Tea Co” for us bears a two-pronged interpretation. Growing up, I always basked in the glee of listening to and attending past shows of the Grateful Dead. Even to date, they make me pop the question—where is a time machine when you need one? I’m a huge fan. In an eponymous fashion, I also am truly “grateful” that in the midst of all that is going on in the world, I am still able to pursue and achieve the vision I have instore for my brand. Of closer family ties, stronger bonds, and magic all in a teacup—I’m grateful! Our journey began in 1988 when our founder, Carol Davis, started handcrafting mocha mixes in her kitchen and selling them at local events. The demand quickly grew, leading us to expand into our current unique location. Our quirky location—set back off the road, behind a house, in an oversized brick building—holds a special place in our hearts. This spot has been our home since Carol moved the rapidly growing business out of her kitchen. Initially focused on wholesale, we weren't open to the public. But in 2016, we transformed part of our space into a welcoming coffee shop, creating a community hub despite its unconventional setting. We roast our coffee in small batches using specialty beans that are ethically sourced from around the world. This meticulous approach ensures that every cup is a perfect blend of quality and sustainability. Sipping Streams Tea Company founder, Jenny Tse, was born in Hong Kong, but raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. She spent her summers selling her mother's vegetables at the local farmer's market and was very active in the local community. Her vision for Sipping Streams began the summer of 2004 where she began to notice how tea brought different people together. Traveling to different tea farms in China encouraged her to teach about tea in her local community. Tse is a certified tea specialist with the Specialty Tea Institute. Her hand blends and teas have won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at the North American Tea Championships. Sipping Streams Tea Company was featured in the Tea Almanac of Fresh Cup Magazine 2009, has spoken at the World Tea Expo, and won 1st place for the Top Tea Infusionist Competition at the World Tea Expo 2011.
