Gorilla Socks was founded in Naples in 2017 with the aim of combining new design trends with the growing focus on environmental sustainability and material sustainability. The idea is to transform a common and everyday item, like socks, into something that is not only trendy but also uses new environmentally friendly natural fibers. The two founding partners, Andrea Salvia and Tommaso Colella, chose bamboo fiber for this purpose: comfortable, durable, and breathable, thus creating socks with vibrant colors suitable for any occasion. Gorilla Socks aims to be a player in the fight against environmental unsustainability in the textile industry by offering a natural and eco-sustainable fiber. Specifically, bamboo has exceptional properties and is particularly appreciated by those who care about the environment. It is a fast-growing plant, up to one meter per day, and grows without human assistance. Harvesting occurs every 3-4 years, avoiding the devastating processes of deforestation. Bamboo cultivation has a very low environmental impact, as it consumes ⅓ of the water of most crops and often only requires rainwater with minimal carbon dioxide emissions while emitting a large amount of oxygen.
