To combat this problem, we need alternative methods of creating charcoal that do not rely on hardwoods and softwoods. Our promising solution is to use coconut shells, which are considered an agricultural waste product. By making charcoal from coconut shells, we protect 12 trees per ton produced: an equivalent of two to three cubic meters of timber.
