About Orange Dot Quilts

Orange Dot Quilts was created in 2016 by me, Dora Cary, a Romanian-born engineer and designer who moved to the United States in 2001, discovered quilting in 2006, made my first quilt and became an American citizen in 2008, and wrote my first quilt pattern in 2013. Now I have more than 30 quilt and bag patterns and even more patterns are waiting to be created. I have several notebooks filled with ideas and sketches waiting to be turned into quilts, bags, or something else altogether. I love quilting for the creativity and freedom of expression it gives me, and I love the quilting community for the amazing generosity and sense of camaraderie. Sew much love! P.S.: Why Orange Dot Quilts, you ask? Because I love orange and polka dots and quilts. Because ORANGE, DOTs, and QUILTS make me happy.

The Woobles

It actually wasn’t too long ago that I crocheted my first plushie. I wanted to make a handmade gift for a friend, and I’m not gonna lie. It was hard. I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I spent weeks piecing together YouTube videos, diagrams, and crochet blogs. I tried to rejigger what I found to fit what I was working on. I made a lot of mistakes. And I did a lot more of hoping for the best. All I could think was - what’s a girl gotta do to crochet a cute penguin, goshyarnit?! And that’s why we made The Woobles - to give beginners like you the easiest way to learn crochet. But The Woobles is actually about more than just crochet. It’s about proving to yourself that you can always learn something new. Changing how you see yourself and your potential to grow. And building the confidence that you can take on whatever comes your way. So come wooble with us! We can’t wait.

Jessica Long Embroidery

Stitching entered my life after the birth of my son as I was looking for a way to slow down, connect with my hands and reduce anxiety. I had always found peace through art but I found that the slow, meditative and tactile experience of using needle and thread to create beauty was especially satisfying. Plus, tossing a hoop and thread in the diaper bag for some stitching at the park proved easier than packing an easel and oil paints. My goal is for my students to find the same joy and relaxation that I find when I am creating art through hand embroidery. I also hope that they have a lot of fun! What inspires me In college I wanted to be a natural science illustrator. Ultimately, I began a more traditional career working in a biotech lab but my love of our natural world never faded. My doodles and paintings always heavily featured flora and fauna, and I never passed up an opportunity to visit a natural history museum or zoo. Thanks to life’s many surprises I have become a full-time hand embroidery instructor and pattern designer. And now I can draw (and then stitch) all of my favorite creatures! So somehow my two loves have magically merged and so I delightfully present to you a library hand embroidery patterns inspired by our natural world.

Marvling Bros Ltd

The creation of Marvling Bros is a story that began in 2010 with two mums at the school gates of a sleepy surburban primary school in Essex… In 2010 the head mistress of the school held a competition for the pupils. The task seemed straightforward and simple enough: How much can you fit in a matchbox? Hayley’s seven-year-old son was not enthused by idea, but Hayley entered for him and came up with all sorts of objects that not only fitted in the matchbox but fulfilled a concept too. For example, a grain of rice and a coriander seed which she labelled ‘curry takeaway’, and a picture of the Mona Lisa and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers became a miniature art gallery. She did not win the competition, and most people thought it was mad, but one other person at the school totally got it - Emma. Two years later, Emma, inspired by the matchboxes, (and having just offloaded her youngest child at school) thought the concept could be the basis for a business and for nine months she and Hayley beavered away researching products, developing ideas and learning how to run an ecommerce company. They launched in July 2013 with an ecommerce website and 12 different product designs. In the first week they sold exactly ten matchboxes, half of those to people they knew. Not the big hit they were hoping for. However, by their first Christmas, they were flying out of the door. In the last eight years the business has gone from strength to strength, while keeping the company ethos - to provide inspiration

Hook, Line & Tinker Embroidery Kits

We're New York times Wirecutter Pick!!! Founded by embroidery artist Laurie Dolhan in 2017, Hook, Line & Tinker embraces creative imperfection and the pure joy of making. We are a busy small-batch, craft production studio designing and selling fabulous, modern embroidery kits. Care for people, respect for the environment, and a deep desire to create something meaningful and real through a shared act of making, are principles firmly embedded into every aspect of our business. Lots of love goes into each and every kit - so we only produce in small batches in our home-based studio. The coffee is always excellent and the music, or a podcast, is almost always on. Each piece of preprinted, 100% cotton fabric is cut by hand. We print our own fabric using a very fancy Mimaki TX300P-1800 fabric printer. (AKA, "The Beast") All our patterns are highly unique originals designed by Laurie Dolhan. The limited colour palette and use of recurring motifs is purposeful - finished hoops hang well as mix-and-match groupings and tell a cohesive story within a theme. Some patterns are easy-peasy first time friendly, others are for ambitious beginners. But all allow for creativity, experimentation, and of course...calm. We wholly support selling online. You have my consent to add any Hook, Line & Tinker products to your site. Please ask us for a link to our easy-to-download photo library! However, please DO NOT SELL through any third party platforms such as Etsy, Walmart or Amazon.
