We opened for business in 1989 with a simple goal: to produce responsibly made and sourced bags, so that reusable becomes a way of life. We started with the ECOBAGS Classic String Bag, a simple lightweight, expandable cotton net bag used in Europe for generations, long before paper and plastic bags. We were part of the first plastic bag bans in the UK (Modbury) and Ireland. We believe that bringing your own bags to the store is the first step of many toward creating a world with less waste. Today, there are movements all over world, banning and taxing single-use plastic bags, creating a "reusable-revolution." We are thrilled! There’s a greater understanding now, that when you "throw away" a single-use plastic bag, there is no "away." If you want to live in a clean environment that means you need to participate in keeping it clean. *Please note: our products are shipped in case packs of ten, and our case packs are shipped in poly bags. An alternative to flex plastics is something that we have been looking into for years, but unfortunately at the moment, we have found no sustainable alternatives that are shelf-stable for long enough. Our products are 100% natural and we must strike a balance between protecting the product during transit, handling, and minimizing our use of plastics. Having said that, we can offer a plastic-free shipping option for those customers who request it - however, if we do ship plastic we do not allow returns for items damaged in shipment.

It all started with salad dressing. Tired of messes and rusty lids, Karen was looking for a solution to shake, pour, and store homemade dressings directly from a Mason jar. When she couldn’t find one, she invented The Original reCAP. The Original reCAP Pour gave rise to a new company, where Karen and the team live and breathe all things Mason jars. Our passion for a better world put the “re” in reCAP – Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle. Inspired by a personal goal of zero-waste, Karen was passionate about bringing reCAP to life – in the hopes the cap would make Mason jars more useful and have a positive environmental impact. The best way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place. Raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Karen’s vision for reCAP is to keep it local and strengthen her hometown community.
