La Kaiser

Cindy Kaiser; A Swiss native, born and raised in Zimbabwe and now living the “American dream” in the windy city of Chicago. Life has been an adventure to say the least! I moved down to South Africa once High school was complete and received my BA degree in Visual Arts, specializing in Creative Jewelry and Metal Design. With my degree in hand, I hit the road once again. After a grueling 22 hour long flight, I arrived amongst the star-studded streets of Los Angeles and started a new batch of studies in Fashion at FIDM. I also apprenticed for Michael Schmidt Studios, in downtown Los Angeles and had the most phenomenal time assisting on the design and manufacture of A-list celebrity costumes for Rihanna, Madonna, the Black Eyed Peas and Kelly Rowland, to name a few. Ever since the day I left Africa, I knew that I wanted to be independent and build a lifestyle that would allow me to be creative, maintain a flexible schedule and give me the freedom to spend time between the two continents (Africa and Europe) that I had personal ties to. So, I took the plunge and started working on my own jewelry line “La Kaiser” and here I am today! Designing and manufacturing my jewelry between Chicago, Jaipur and overseas, drawing upon my colorful travels and European adventures for design inspiration and donating to charities of my choice in Zimbabwe and the USA, such as the Anti Cruelty Society.

Esme

Growing up, my father would always take me fishing in the woodlands of Pennsylvania with him. While he was busy catching trout, I would be scouring the creekside and digging my hands into the mud. Every little rock and pebble was fascinating to me: each one a treasure to be cherished. I would run up to him excitedly (scaring away all of the trout), and say, "Look! You won't believe what I found!" I would proudly hold up my muddy handful of little creek pebbles like it was a pile of diamonds. "No way! I can't believe you found these," he would proclaim. We would sort through my little pile of rocks and pick our favorites. Years later, after my father passed away, I found a small wooden box in his room. It was full of every special stone we collected from our fishing trips. My passion for stones and crystals has been lifelong. In 2014, after spending years doing illustration and graphic design work, I decided I needed to make a change. I quit my job and started making jewelry full time, and I haven't looked back. I love creating unique jewelry that showcases the beauty of the stone and the person who wears them. When I'm not in the studio making jewelry, you can still find me at a creek or a beach, picking up every little treasure I find along the way.

Simply Chic Jewelry

At Simply Chic Jewelry, we know that life can be a bit overwhelming at times and as women, we can forget to take care of and treat ourselves. So to help, we created a line of sustainable and versatile jewelry that is meant to serve as a reminder that we are deserving of luxury at all times and it doesn't have to come with a high price. Hi, I'm Rachael! My passion for creativity started when I was really young, I grew up around two important people in my life (my grandparents) who were always using their hands to make something. My grandma loved painting, cooking, baking and crafting. My grandpa worked in his workshop building wood birdhouses, puzzles, building golf clubs, etc. He bought me a "how to" sketch book as a child. It was of the simplest little humans and creatures but I loved sitting at the dining room table and drawing with him. I didn't find out later until he passed that he owned his own carpentry company called Garling Builders. I thought he just worked for someone. Nope, he worked for himself! I see can some of myself in his story and I know he would be so proud of me. It wasn't until 2014 that I started Simply Chic Jewelry and I took it even further in 2015 by studying YouTube videos on metalsmithing techniques. After learning the basic techniques, I finally felt like I could bring my vision of everyday luxury to life. During this time my career grew as well and I felt like I could make that sustainable and versatile piece for which I was searching.
