About Luath Press Ltd

Luath Press, named after Robert Burns' beloved collie, Luath, who played a pivotal role in his romance with Jean Armour, is rooted in Scotland’s literary heritage. Initially founded in 1981 by Tom and Rene Atkinson in Barr, Ayrshire, Luath Press began with the publication of the Luath Guide Series, created to fill a gap in descriptive guides to Scottish regions. The press quickly expanded, publishing works by various authors, some of which, like 'Mountain Days and Bothy Nights', have remained in print for years. Tom Atkinson's diverse experiences—from attempting to join the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War to serving in the RAF during WWII and playing a key role in Indonesia’s independence—shaped Luath Press with a unique perspective. After Tom’s retirement in 1997, Gavin and Audrey MacDougall took over, relocating the press to Edinburgh, close to Burns’ first lodgings. Under their stewardship, Luath Press has continued to flourish, publishing works in English, Scots and Gaelic across genres like politics, history, humour, fiction and poetry. The press remains committed to bringing strong, diverse voices to the forefront, offering distinctive writing that promises unexpected pleasures. Luath Press has maintained its core belief in publishing well-written books worth reading, continually reaching new heights in the literary world.

Microcosm Publishing & Distribution

Microcosm Publishing is a fiercely independent publisher and distributor that empowers readers to make positive changes in their lives, their communities, and their world. Our books and zines focus on subjects like gender, self-care, mental health, bicycle culture, punk rock, radical politics, witchcraft, social justice, bodily autonomy, and a community-focused DIY ethos. We built a successful book business by celebrating all the things that mainstream publishing deems too niche or incendiary to take on—and we're growing all the time, thanks to people like you! We also create stickers, pins, patches, card decks, and other unique products to help you express yourself, explore your relationships, and expand your horizons. We began in Cleveland, OH in 1996 and now based out of Cleveland and Portland, OR. In the beginning, we set out to save ourselves from not caring. But out here in the margins, we found inspiration in countless folks and communities who make us want to do more, and better. We've professionalized a little from our punk roots (where once we had zines in a milk crate, we now have warehouses), but Microcosm is still fueled by the dream of a better world, motivating us to share the resource we need to get started building it, right now, together.

Barbour Publishing, Inc.

Our Mission: To Inspire the World with the Life-Changing Message of the Bible. Faithfulness to the Bible and love for Jesus Christ are the bedrock values behind every book Barbour’s staff produces. From a 70,000-square-foot facility in Uhrichsville, Ohio, Barbour produces more than 200 new titles per year. Those books, coupled with nearly six hundred stock titles, are part of Barbour’s mission to inspire the world with the life-changing message of the Bible. The Bible Promise Book®, devotionals for all ages, Bibles, kids' books, journals, and popular Bible reference books form the core of our publishing activities. But we are also home to bestselling authors Wanda E. Brunstetter, Josh McDowell, Jonathan McKee, and Carolanne Miljavac, among others. Our History: Originally called "Book Bargains," the company was founded in 1981 by Christian publishing visionary Hugh Barbour who initially focused on selling overstocks. Soon, however, the business transitioned to publishing its own titles, including The Bible Promise Book® which has gone on to sell millions of copies. In the years to follow, Barbour experienced phenomenal growth under the leadership of Tim Martins, including expansion of product lines, imprints, facilities, and a talented team of employees. In 2017, Barbour became one of the first employee-owned companies in the Christian Publishing industry.
