Species by the Thousands is a craft studio originally founded by artist Erica Bradbury in 2006 in Brooklyn, NY. It All Started with Laundry. I’m Kathy, and I learned about natural home and wellness products when I realized the laundry was making my family sick. When I learned the harsh truth behind so-called fresh scented laundry detergent and dryer sheets, I decided things had to change. But I didn’t stop at laundry. And I didn’t stop at my family. As I did my research about most home products, I realized the mass market was caught between innocent misinformation and downright false advertising. Beyond curious, I was now duty bound. Candle Warmers Etc. became the original alternative to lighting a candle in 2001, when our founder became aware of the dangers of lit candles. An unattended candle sparked a fire that destroyed a neighbor's home, and he started looking for a solution. Inspired by a mug warmer he'd been given as a gift, He invested his family's savings into 5,000 mug warmers, and the original candle warmer was born. Our idea caught on quickly, and in 2007, Candle Warmers Etc. was selling a wide variety of candle warmers to over 10,000 gift shops across the US. The family business merged with 4 brothers-in-law to form the leadership group that carries the company today. Since the merger, Candle Warmers Etc. has continued to grow exponentially. Our current product line includes over 180 styles of fragrance warmers, across 10 unique product lines, and 176 wax products. In 2016, we launched our new product line, Airomé, which features 100% pure essential oils, essential oil diffusers, and Himalayan salt lamps. Every product offered, from the design and branding to the blend recipes was all created by the couple. After years of researching and personally using essential oils in their everyday lives, they started creating their own functional essential oil sprays to use throughout the day and gave them each catchy names and clean, simplistic scent combinations. They couldn't find anything else like it on the market so Michelle used her background in graphic design to create the branding behind what would become Happy Spritz. Animal rescue and welfare is a cause that is very important to both Bram and Michelle.
