About Caffè Gioia
5.0
It all began in the post-war period in a small town in the province of Salerno, specifically in 1949 in Eboli, when Domenico Gioia and his wife Wanda bought a colonial store from an Italian-American in the city center, where, in addition to selling various products, raw coffee was roasted in the back room and blends were created for the store's customers only. The demand for coffee increased year by year and came not only from the fellow citizens of the Gioia couple but also from customers who came from all over the province to buy the good coffee from the Gioia roasting company. To meet the ever-growing demand for coffee, in 1958 they moved to manual grinding and packaging of coffee within the same store. The colonial business, combined with the artisanal production of coffee, continued for about thirty years until supply requests began to arrive from bars and grocery stores in the area; at that point, Domenico and the family decided to focus on the production and marketing of coffee. Production was moved to the historic site on Via Apollo 11, where staff and equipment necessary for the new challenge were expanded. In 1981, Caffè Domenico Gioia Srl was established, and the Caffè Gioia brand was registered, which still today, after a restyling at the end of the '90s, identifies the entire product range of the Campania company.

I like to think that in every cup of our coffee there is a bit of the company, the family, and our entrepreneurial dream. Each cup must tell of our noisy family meetings around large tables, the dedication to work that our grandparents taught us, and the respect for values and relationships with others. Being a family and being a company is a unique source of energy, an invaluable asset, a guarantee of ethics, passion, and continuity. Our story as coffee roasters begins in San Carlo Canavese in 1971, in a small warehouse owned by my grandparents. My father, Luciano Perrero, had worked in the coffee field from a young age, then decided to refurbish the old warehouse and start his own roasting business. A difficult step, with many hours dedicated to experimenting, listening, and learning, while continuing to invest and grow. Today, many things have changed, while many others have remained unchanged: our determination to learn and grow, our enthusiasm for our coffee, and our deep respect for the land and the work of the entire supply chain. Investing in sustainability with the construction of our photovoltaic plant, choosing Organic and Fair Trade, Fairtrade certification, and sharing the Donas do Cafè project are some of the steps to realize our dream: a good, fair, and unique coffee.

My love of coffee has been around for many years. The idea to start a coffee roastery was born slowly but surely during my years as a touring musician with my band Truckfighters. In the past, it was not easy to find good coffee around the world. In recent years, however, a lot of good micro roasters have started and I have had the privilege of visiting many of them. So why not take that experience and start your own roastery in my hometown Örebro.
