Stephanie Fornash Kennedy launched the FORNASH brand after vacationing in the Caribbean. The bright colors and richness of the tropics fueled her passion for design and style. Upon her arrival back to Washington D.C., she began designing custom handbags. In November 2002, six months after Stephanie sold her first custom handbag, she opened the FORNASH boutique in Georgetown. In August 2003, she introduced FORNASH for the first time to retail buyers at Accessories the Show in New York City. Today, retailers can shop her collection at several tradeshows around the country. As the wholesale business continued to grow, Stephanie broadened the FORNASH line with scarves and clothing, but jewelry was the runaway success. A pivotal moment for the FORNASH brand occurred in December 2009, when the FORNASH Boa Scarf was featured in Oprah’s magazine on her coveted “O List”. This publicity instantly gave FORNASH national brand recognition, new fans and new clients. The secret was out!

I have been creating handmade jewelry and accessories for over 4 years now. I originally went to college to study elementary education, but I always had a love for the arts. It was not until three years into teaching in a classroom that I felt the call to step away from education and start my own creative business. I explored many side hustles before I started The Crafted Makerie. However, when I discovered polymer clay as a medium for creating unique, lightweight jewelry, something clicked. I had always loved jewelry, but hated that bigger earrings were so heavy and uncomfortable to wear. Using polymer clay, I could create beautiful statement pieces that were comfortable enough to be worn all day. This realization allowed me the ability to share my creations with the world. Thus, The Crafted Makerie was born! Since starting my business in 2020, I have been able to expand into other mediums such as acrylic and wood to create more variety in my line of earrings and accessories. My main goal is to empower women to feel confident and beautiful! My designs help women express themselves and reflect their inner beauty.
