About Aimee Petkus Jewelry

Aimee Petkus grew up in Colorado and received an undergraduate degree in geology from Colorado State University. She worked professionally as a geologist for several years in New York City and surrounding areas. Unsatisfied with being behind a desk everyday, she went on a 2 year adventure collecting rocks and minerals to get back to what she loved about geology. Along that adventure she learned some lapidary which then led her to the Savannah College of Art and Design where she earned a BFA in Jewelry and Objects in 2013. Aimee designs with the inspiration of geology and crystal structures. Each piece is fabricated and finished by her hands in Philadelphia using unusual gems and minerals. The crystalline collection draws its inspiration from the way in which crystals grow. A crystal skeleton is constructed around each gem to invoke a molecular form. Pieces without stones are formed in a way to show how crystalline layers snowball to form larger and larger crystals. The Mineral Specimen Collection is designed to allow the stone to speak for itself and be the star of the show. This collection was built from a desire to take specimens meant for cases and shelves that do nothing but collect dust and transform them into wearable objects that travel around the world with the wearer. Her work has been published in Lark Books 500 Art Necklaces, Lapidary Journal, and Metalsmith Magazine. She resides in Philadelphia with her husband Greg and 4 year old daughter, Ruby.
