We are husband and wife beekeepers! We started keeping bees as an addition to our urban farm in 2012 and quickly fell in love with everything about the process. After a few years we used our stored beeswax and raw honey to make lip balm. It quickly took off and Messner Bee Farm is now a full time business with a production area and apiary. We currently have a mobile store on our Trolley named Beeatrix! We feel privileged to be a part of the making process start to finish beginning with the bees building beeswax and gathering nectar in the spring. Beekeeping is endlessly interesting and challenging – a real labor of love. We harvest the wax and honey in late summer and use the supplies to make our lip balms. We produce all of our balms in small batches and hand pour them to insure the best quality and craftsmanship. We take pride in providing something that is natural, useful and supports our favorite pollinators!

The Balm Standard started in a high school engineering classroom. What started as a school project, became an obsession that took 8 months of trial and error to formulate the ideal balm unlike the rest. The smooth, long lasting, creamy texture and flavorful scent (without being overpowering) puts every hand poured balm above the rest. Through continuous trial and error we truly believe that our formula is one of a kind. Nearly a decade later and each tube is STILL handmade with LOVE. Born and raised in Kansas, Jamie Tabor, lives on the river with her artist/inventor husband, their daughter, son, four dogs and a cat. She is the chick behind Simone Chickenbone. Jamie decided if she were to make a lip balm it would have to be called ChickenPoopTM, inspired by her grandpa's sense of humor. If one was to complain of dry lips he'd say, "Put some chicken poop on your lips so you won't lick 'em". ABOUT HOLLY & JUSTIN Holly is founder and lead designer of two business, The Little Flower Soap Co & Sweet Pea Floral Design a wedding and event floral design company est. 2009. Holly brings a Love of great design, a passion for creating small masterpieces by hand & a desire to offer a refreshing, unique and memorable customer experience. Justin is a D.O. with a passion for herbs, vitamins, nutrition and natural health care. He develops recipes using his intuition, a process similar to applied kinesiology. Because Justin isn’t worried about the cost of ingredients his recipes can be pricy to produce and time consuming to make but are arguably the best in our market. Little Flower Soaps are cold processed in small batches using heirloom techniques perfected with time. We use the best essential oils, botanicals, and minerals including organic rosemary leaf, lavender flowers, organic cocoa butter, Shea butter and many more. Holly & Justin work joyfully from a small Michigan studio.

She told me if I decide to start a lip balm company, it should be called Kind Lips. In that moment, I knew she was right (as moms always are). Lip balm goes on our lips, and our words pass back through. I knew each tube would be a simple reminder to speak kind words with every application. From there, the idea took shape. Starting in my own kitchen, I crafted a formula with kindness in mind—not just for people's words, but for their health as well.
