Daphne Lorna is the collaboration of two sisters, Daphne Lorna Evans and Cindy Evans McCoy. Cindy and Daphne grew up in Montreal, Canada, and have been making jewelry ever since they can remember. As two of four daughters, design and fashion were always a central household theme in their growing up years. Daphne’s love of the outdoors and casual style complement Cindy’s energetic, bright east-coast sensibilities. Daphne and Cindy started DL as an expression of their creativity, and to fill a niche for unfussy, casual jewelry with a mountain girl femininity. Daphne Lorna jewelry is inspired by the mountains, wildlife and people that fill the palate of western Montana. Attention to design and details are of paramount importance to both Cindy and Daphne, ensuring that each piece is a thoughtful blend of the owners’ aesthetics, which makes Daphne Lorna Jewelry so unique. I first sat down at a sewing machine at age five, secretly mimicking projects my mother had completed. I was immediately captivated and have been creating ever since. The art of creating is almost meditative for me. I find focus, clarity and calm. When I discovered cork fabric and cording, I fell in love with it and haven’t looked back. My story as an artist began in 2010 when I followed the footsteps of my dad. He unrolled his napkin at a local restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI to discover the tines of his fork bent outwards. This sparked an idea in his mind to bend silverware and give it a new life. While I was in college, I joined him and together we refined the process to make smooth, consistent bends in silverware. After he grew out of the trade, I took over and continued in the same spirit of constant improvement in design and tooling. Everything you see in my store today stems from my philosophy of constant innovation. All of the tools that I use to bend silverware are developed in house. These tools allow me create smooth, complex bends with unmatched, sophisticated designs. Creating jewelry from recycled media ignited a passion for preserving our environment within me. All of my jewelry is 100% recycled and reused and stands as a symbol of environmental protection. I strive to create a purpose behind my art. To show people that we can produce wonderful things without damaging our planet. This drives me as an artist to produce to best silverware jewelry that I can. My story begins growing up in Wyoming and Colorado. With family heritage from South Dakota, I spent hours watching my aunts bead and create beautiful works of art. Little by little, I learned to become a bead enthusiast myself, passed down from generations of memories and experiences along the way. I began making jewelry for my family and friends and thus the business began. Born having an indigenous ancestry, I naturally gravitated towards designing jewelry rich in Southwestern - Western color and detail. My greatest passion is in designing patterns and sequences with deep history and meaning. Old Indigenous patterns mixed in with current styles and the Old West bring me great joy and passion.
