David Novek was the kind of man who had the ability to make every- one around him feel good about themselves. A loving husband. An exceptional father. A devoted friend. His energy radiated positivity as he committed himself - and inspired others - to make the most of out every day. That was the legacy David left behind when he lost his life to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2008. Driven to honor his late father, Brett Novek went on to create good hYOUman, an active-inspired clothing brand designed to empower people to feel their best self. We began as a one-man sewing operation on a journey to blend comfortable athletic wear with casual street wear. The guiding dream from the beginning was to expand beyond just one sewer to an entire brand focused on developing quality clothes. We want to change the culture behind sewing and manufacturing. Our Upstate New York design lab and manufacturing headquarters creates a collective space for us to work alongside each other making small batches of unique activewear for women. Along the journey of building our brand we realized the truth and troubles of garment production and decided there had to be a better way to produce. A way that allowed us to control quality, wear proudly and sleep soundly. By designing and producing our activewear ourselves under one roof, we’re able to take an idea from the design stage to finished product in a matter of days. Our design studio was born out of our passion for creating and experimenting, and it lives where we both learn and perfect the art of making clothing everyday.

A Message From Our Founder Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is my home. Since I was 13 years old I’ve been fascinated by eastern philosophy. Yoga and arts are my two passions and my background is in theatre and dance. I started teaching Hatha yoga in Brazil in 1999. In 2003 I earned a Bikram Yoga Teacher Certification. In 2005 I studied with Dharma Mitra and in 2006 I studied with Ana Forrest . Brazil is famous for colorful exotic bikinis and in 1999 I started Gold Rio Swimwear, a bikini company, in the USA. For about 4 years I sold bikinis to surf shops on the east and west coast. But that wasn’t my passion. I always follow my heart so in the spring of 2003 I registered for the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles. The next nine weeks were going to be spent in a hot, sweaty room and I needed to wear something in between a bathing suit and an aerobic fitness outfit. So I came up with several colorful little side string shorts and tops. Since the first day of training my colleagues complimented my outfits. Some asked, knowing about Gold Rio Swimwear, if they could buy some outfits from me. That inspired me to consider a yoga clothing line as most people at that time were still wearing long dark pants in a 100 degree yoga room. I looked around everyday and thought; “this room would look much better if people were wearing more colorful and comfortable outfits”. That September was the first Yoga Expo and Bishnu Gosh Yoga Competition and there were exhibitor booths available. I
