Semaki & Bird was conceived in a “eureka” moment on a cold November day in southeast Alaska. It was 1986 and I was working as a fisheries biologist. Semaki means fish in Swahili and my idea was to start a company which wholesaled fish and bird stationery, jewelry and artisan work. Along with my love for these two wonderful vertebrates, I had a lifelong interest in art and design. It seemed a natural fit. As the company grew, the lines expanded to additional flora and fauna. Ideas still spawn from numerous outdoor experiences. After designing the Track earring and Foot Note lines, it was nearly impossible to hike without looking at the ground for animal signs. Our Natural History jewelry line reflects this love of nature. An educational message about the species is on the back of the jewelry card. It is important to me that Semaki & Bird is an earth friendly company, using recycled materials whenever possible and supporting local and global environmental causes. We are a woman-owned and women run small business.

Made with love, each MAIVE piece is created to become an extension of those wearing it. Our Story The journey of what is now MAIVE started in 2013 when founder Charlotte Park first sought out meaningful and personal gifts for her loved ones. During her search, she decided to make a series of charmed necklaces each designed to tell a story and symbolize an experience, a milestone, or treasured memory. Soon after, Charlotte started selling her handmade pieces on Etsy with the intent and desire of raising funds for an orphanage in Seoul, South Korea. It was then that her small business Seoul Little was born. What started out as a means to make a small donation soon turned into a business that continues to make giving a part of their core mission. In 2016, Charlotte teamed up with her sister in law Mary to create a sister brand called MAIVE. After a few years they came together as one brand. The name MAIVE was kept since it was a product of their collaboration and represented their sisterhood/partnership. In November 2020, MAIVE was relaunched.

I make fabric button earrings from my custom designed fabric. Every piece starts out as one of my little doodles. With over 440 different designs, I have something for everyone and every occasion! I make every earring with my own two hands in my Omaha studio, with made in the USA parts. Rachel O’s Fabulous Whimsy was launched in 2013. It’s been my full time job ever since.
