MountainGirlClothing was created in 2008 by using my grandmother's hand-me-down sewing machine, a little inspiration and pile of thrifted clothing. My friends at art school would call me "Mountain Girl" as I was the only one in the group who was not from a big city, so my business name was born. While there, I studied fiber arts and fashion design. It brought me so much joy, I just knew I wanted to continue upcycling and slow fashion as my full-time job. I find so much joy repurposing t-shirts,fabrics and other materials to create new garments for others to enjoy. I run MountainGirlClothing out of my studio space in New Hampshire. I am very grateful to be able to support my daughter and family by doing what I love. I hope you find as much joy out of these creations as I do in making them. The sun was setting on a bright and sunny day ... I watched in awe and then took a picture from my porch in Sicily Italy, where my daughter lives half the year. You can see the beauty in this picture which is now the hang tag of our collection of washable Italian linen, Devitalia. A star is born! We tested this line in our award winning shops last year and it was the best selling line of ALL of the MANY wonderful designer lines (including other Italian linen labels) which we've carried for many moons. But that's not where our company story began ... I began outback in the garage with an Aussie girlfriend. We were always telling our young children when working, "we'll be outback". And so Outback was born! With clothing that is artful, comfy and flattering, using organic cotton, bamboo, tencel produced locally. Our mission is for women to feel good and empowered in their skin, no matter what color, in their body, no matter what size, in their spirit no matter what point of view. The Temple of Venus was born in a mystical story you can read on our website. Over 40 years, I have opened more than 50 Temple/shops (lost count!) and in the past have designed, produced and wholesaled 12-15 collections a year, selling to over 3000 stores. Though I have only produced clothing (much less) for my own shops (and a few of my previous best shops) in the last 20 years, I am now opening up wholesale sales to 108 shops around the world. The sariKNOTsari Up-Cycled Vintage Pure Silk Collection was created by our founder Priya Mohan when she re-discovered her love for the colours, fabrics and sizing versatility of South Asian saris. Realizing that a sari would be too difficult for her to wear during her daily activities in Canada, she decided to repurpose the saris into high-quality, comfortable clothing pieces that she could wear year-round.
