About O'kra
O'kra was born in a kitchen, out of necessity. Founder Anna Cobb, a plant science graduate of Tuskegee University, one of America's most storied HBCUs, had been using okra water to manage her own health and noticed real changes in her digestion, her skin, and her energy. But the process was tedious, messy, and hard to stick with. She kept thinking: if the remedy works, why is it so hard to access? That question became a company. What makes O'kra unique is that it was never designed to chase a trend. Okra is ancestral. It traveled to America from Africa, it fed generations of Black and Southern families, and it has been used as a home remedy for centuries across African, Caribbean, and South Asian cultures. Anna didn't discover okra water on TikTok, she grew up with it. O'kra is the formalization of something her community already knew. What we care most about is making sure that the people who have always known about okra's power are the first ones to benefit from its commercial success. That means hiring from HBCUs and community colleges, building an internship program that creates real pathways into CPG for underrepresented students, and pricing our product accessibly, so that wellness is not a luxury. We are a Maryland-born, HBCU-rooted, community-driven brand, and every can we sell is a testament to the people who believed in us before the rest of the world caught on. No slime, just shine. 🌿
