An incredibly distinctive artistic style, David's work conjures up ironic comments on everyday situations and human interactions. His perceptive drawings and texts are typically deadpan in their humour and reveal chance declarations like snippets of over-heard conversations. Reoccurring themes and random musings permeate his storytelling, often capturing childlike views of the world. Whilst drawing is at the core of his work, he is also prolific in various other mediums including sculpture, large-scale installations, painting, animation, photography, and music. He is consistently looking to expand his public by operating regularly outside of the gallery territory such as in artist publications and musical collaborations. In September 2016, David’s Fourth Plinth Commission in Trafalgar Square, London was unveiled. Standing at seven metres high, the ‘Really Good’ thumbs up sculpture was a refreshing and wonderfully optimistic addition to the famous landmark. David’s work can also be found at an on-going display in the Gallery at Sketch Restaurant in London as part of a long-term programme of artist conceived restaurants. Shrigley was a Turner Prize nominee in 2013, following his major mid-career retrospective at the Hayward Gallery, London entitled ‘Brain Activity’.
