About Northwood Honey

We started Northwood Honey in 2017, turning a beekeeping hobby into a local enterprise. We started with two hives on Northwood Avenue in Brookwood Hills in South Buckhead Atlanta in 2015. Since then, we have grown to 30+ hives with our partners, Mickey Anderson and Martin Kendall. We keep our hives on Mickey's farm in Dallas, Georgia. Mickey is retired from the FDA, has a Masters in Entomology, and has worked for commercial beekeepers throughout his career. Fortunately, Mickey's farm has many Sourwood trees. In 2019 we started moving a few of our Northwood hives to Mickey’s farm during the Sourwood flow to get as much of pure Sourwood Honey as we could. Based on the color of the honey and a visual inspection of the bees during foraging, we think it also has a bit of Sumac and Clover. Now, to make sure our honey is not exposed to pesticides, we keep all our hives together on the farm, and harvest just before and after the Sourwood flow. That keeps our products organic, distinct, and pure. Because our harvests grew from pints to gallons, we went through the process to become certified with the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Our honey may be a little more expensive than others, but we only use organic methods, and spend a lot of time making sure that our honey is handled and bottled in the most hygienic way possible. Plus, our infusions are creative and our labelling is fantastic. Read their story
