Goot Essa began in 2001 as a six-family cooperative. Our goal has always been to use our cheesemaking expertise to ensure every generation has the means to stay on the farm. As an Amish business, we work our fields in the traditional way – with horses and manpower instead of machines. Every member contributes to the good of the farm, the family, and in turn, the whole community. Our farms are small, allowing each acre and animal to be cared for with love and respect for nature. Goot Essa’s small-batch approach to cheesemaking ensures our products are flavorful and unique. We want you to experience food fresh from the farm, processed at the peak of flavor. In the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect, “Goot Essa” means “good food” or “good eating.” It’s only natural we named our group Goot Essa, because we want to share our love for handcrafted, European-style cheese with you — so you can share it with friends and family. Note: During shipment ice packs may thaw and the cheese may be at room temperature for a number of hours without it impacting quality or flavor.

“Josh, can you help me sell a 1,000,000 pounds of cheese?” I’ll spare you the cheesy details, but the origin story of The Big Cheese begins with my desire to help a friend in the cheese aging business (yes, that is a real business). He had 1,000,000 lbs. of cheese that was a decade old just sitting there! It only took one bite, and I knew I had a winner. You may be asking “Josh, why did he call you?” Well, I grew up in the cheese business in Plymouth, WI (the Cheese Capital of the World) so I know a little bit about cheddar. My grandfather, Leonard Gentine – the original Big Cheese in my life – started Sargento Foods, a very BIG cheese company. In fact, I grew up playing hide-and-go-seek among the slicing and dicing equipment in the factory. My grandfather was an amazing man, and The Big Cheese is named in his honor. After spending the last two years selling online and developing some seriously bold products, we are now bringing the Big Cheese to stores around the country. Whether it’s our Wicked White, our Glorious Golden, or our mind-blowing popcorn, we aim to deliver legen-dairy flavors with a quirky sense of humor. Sweet Grass Dairy is a second generation, family-owned creamery based in Thomasville, Georgia. We produce handmade artisan cheese from cow’s milk. Our cows are raised barn free, grazing on fresh grass year-round. Sweet Grass Dairy produces a variety of aged, soft-ripened, and fresh cow’s milk cheeses all developed to showcase this quality. We are known for our award-winning, double cream Green Hill and semi-soft Thomasville Tomme cheeses. Our Pimento spread, our unique twist on a Southern classic, has also garnered a cult following. Muranda Holsteins was founded by Tom and Nancy Murray in 1991. Back then the Murray family’s main focus was producing the highest quality milk out of high caliber cows. in 1997 the Murrays bred a cow that broke the world record for milk production. Muranda Oscar Lucinda produced 67,914 pounds of milk in just one year - that’s about 8500 gallons of milk. In addition to providing the dairy industry with quality genetics, Muranda also won numerous awards for quality milk including earning the Dairy of Distinction recognition for over 25 years consecutively. Muranda Cheese Company was born in late 2007 when the Murray family decided it was time to direct market their products to consumers. We sold our cows in 2019 and began buying milk locally in the area to keep up to cheese demand. Today the farm helps to produce over 17 types of cheeses that have been recognized for their superior artisanal quality. Eichten's Cheeses are an made from fresh pasteurized cow's milk, true European culture and vegetable rennet. Eichtens cheeses are made from pure ingredients. They add no coloring, artificial flavors , preservatives or GMO Rennet. Aged in Eichtens aging rooms at a precise temperature. Moved and turned daily for correct breathing and aging. Goudas and Tilsit are aged 60 days or longer - the longer the aging period, the stronger the flavors.
