Faire Winter Market 2023—our virtual trade show event—concluded last week after several days packed with shopping, exclusive discounts, and new brand discovery. Thousands of brands and retailers from around the world joined the event between January 24 and January 26. Members of our Insider program for retailers also got an exclusive early day of access to all the market specials. Now that it’s all said and done, we’re sharing some of the top trends and observations from this year’s winter event.

Brands and retailers from around the world

A wide range of global participants from North America to Australia joined Faire Winter Market 2023. Almost 25,000 brands participated in this year’s winter event. About 20% of the brands that received orders were part of our European community, including brands from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. About 5,600 of the nearly 50,000 retailers that made a purchase were based in Europe as well.

New wholesale relationships were formed between brands and retailers, many of which were cross-border relationships between brands and retailers in different countries.

Retailers took advantage of Faire promotion matching and brand discounts and placed nearly 250,000 orders during this year’s winter virtual trade show. Most retailers spread the love and placed orders with multiple brands—the average retailer ordered from about five different brands.

We’ve gathered a few of the biggest buying trends from Faire Winter Market ‘23 to give you more insights into what retailers were favoring at the event.

We noticed buying trends that differed from country to country as well. The top products in the United States during the event were Kid’s & Baby accessories. Paper & Novelty items were big sellers in several other countries—retailers in Canada went for greeting cards in a big way, mindfulness cards were the most popular products in the United Kingdom, and stickers were the top products in France. Non-alcoholic aperitifs were also the top products in Germany, proving that the sober-curious trend is still growing and very much international.

We also took a look at the most popular search queries during this year’s Faire Winter Market. Not surprisingly, two upcoming holidays were top of mind for retailers across the globe. The top search queries on Faire during the 2023 winter virtual trade show were Easter and Valentine’s Day. There were also plenty of search queries for the ever-popular candles and jewelry. And finally, a large number of buyers searched for western items.

Finally, retailers purchased from many different categories during Faire Winter Market ‘23. The most popular categories globally included Candles, Decorative Objects, Shirts & Blouses, Drinkware, and Kid’s Toys & Games. Retailers also shopped with their values. The top purchased brand value tags across the globe on Faire during this year’s Winter Market included Made in USA, Women-owned, Handmade, and Not on Amazon.
