This post is part of the Faire Forecast: our predictions for the buying trends that will shape 2024.
People have long been dressing to match the vibe of concerts: think flares and peasant tops at Woodstock and tie-dye tees at Grateful Dead concerts. And thanks to social media and the travel and ticket costs of attending these viral moments, there is a new wave in concert dressing—where fans are going head-to-toe glam to show up for their icons.
From Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour to Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour, 2023 was a wild year for truly epic, feature-length concerts. And fans showed up big time for all the budget-busting spectacles, wardrobe changes, and hours of singing and dancing.
In June, friendship bracelet kits—a staple of Eras Tour attire—made their way onto our list of top 10 products in the DIY and Craft Kits category.
On TikTok, searches for “concert outfits” have over 26 billion views, according to Refinery29. The publication writes, “Costumes [have] become a way of fans illustrating that they ‘understand the assignment.’ … They’ve come to the show prepared, able to demonstrate their sense of belonging, knowledge, or cultural capital.” Other fashion-forward publications are getting in on the trend, too, providing readers with all the inspiration they need for upcoming shows, from purple Converse to rhinestone neckties.
On Faire, searches for “Taylor Swift” have skyrocketed 417% since she started her tour in March 2023. In June, friendship bracelet kits—a staple of Eras Tour attire—made their way onto our list of top 10 products in the DIY and Craft Kits category.
Concert dressing has even started to make its way onto runways, driving fashion trends and presenting shoppers with unique opportunities to match their favorite artist’s aesthetic. There’s Girl Tribe Co for Olivia Rodrigo–inspired tees and Blue Pepper for a Guts-ready plaid miniskirt. Blue B has a sequin crop top perfect for the Eras Tour, and Tanner Glass has all the stackable bracelets to match.
In 2024, we expect this trend to continue to grow, as Madonna’s Celebration Tour, Doja Cat’s Scarlet Tour, Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted, and Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour make their way to stages near you. Prep your stores and drawers with loads of leather, all the hot aspects of Y2K fashion (from chokers to lug-sole boots), Barbie pink, silver sequins, those T-Swift-ready friendship bracelets, and more viral concert clothing and accessories.
